Page & Palette’s The Good Life Foundation’s Hook 'em & Keep 'em initiative is aimed at getting kids really hooked on reading by the time they reach 5th grade and keep them as avid readers by 9th grade - two crucial times during their development as readers. Each year, we will bring in two notable authors to targe these reading levels. The foundation will give 500 books away in both of these grades.
In 2012 The Good Life Foundation gave away 500 copies of "A Tale Dark & Grimm" by Adam Gidwitz. This year The Good Life Foundation is thrilled to bring the "Endangered Authors Tour" to our local schools. A school-wide event for middle grade readers, the "Endangered Authors!" is a game show-themed theatrical show that includes trivia, comedy and interviews with the authors of four middle grade titles: Wereworld series by Curtis Jobling, A Tale Dark & Grimm and In A Glass Grimmly by Adam Gidwitz, The Chronicles of Egg by Geoff Rodkey, and The Books of Elsewhere by Jacqueline West. This tour is sure to capture students' imaginations and have them reading around the clock. The foundation will be giving away 500 books to 6th graders at Fairhope Intermediate, J. Larry Newton, Bayside Academy, Christ the King Catholic School, BayShore Christian School and the Marietta Johnson School of Organic Education.
We would like to thank the Fairhope Sunset Rotary for sponsoring the 2013 Hook'em & Keep'em initiative.
